Career Services

About Us

Welcome to the CWC Career Services office. We are here to assist students, the CWC campus, and employers. Our mission is to provide high-quality student services while providing support and guidance for student career development, which can include student employment, internships, job shadowing and mentorship/informational interviewing. Our office can assist students through career assessments (Career Coach) as well as assist students with resumes, cover letters, and interviewing techniques. The SkillsMatch website can also assist those who have been in the workforce by identifying their current/learned skill sets and matching those skills to job openings in the state. It can even help you find programs for skills you would like to learn. We recommend that you start your career planning sooner rather than later as the job market is constantly changing. The CWC Career Services Team is here for you!

Student Opportunities

Documentable experience is valuable for anyone entering the workforce. The CWC Career Services Team can assist you with finding employment and/or experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom that will help enhance your certificate or degree.

Student Employment – Help build your resume by working for CWC as a student worker. Work-Study* positions are also available.

*Must be eligible…Work-Study positions are federally funded; see your Student Aid Report from your FAFSA, the FAFSA website for eligibility, or visit with the CWC Financial Aid office.

Career Services can also assist student job seekers looking for jobs in local communities. A Job Board is posted in the Main Hall near the classrooms.

Experiential Learning – Learn through experience! Enhance your education by gaining valuable experience and participate in a variety of paid and unpaid opportunities outside of the classroom. Options include:

  • Mentoring/Informational Interviewing – Short term visit(s) with people working in your desired profession. Learn from professionals about your desired career choice or occupation.
  • Job Shadowing – Short term/temporary opportunity to be placed in a work environment for a few hours a day, up to a few weeks. Experience what it would be like to work for an employer in a selected field without a long-term commitment.
  • Internships – Gain valuable experience working part-time in your field of interest. Internships can be paid or unpaid, depending on the employer. CWC may be able to help fund (pay students) in internships that are unpaid (subject to available funding). Typical semester internships would have students working 12.5 hours for a 12-week period of time or 18.75 hours for 8-weeks. Students participating in a semester-based internship paid by CWC will be limited to one semester internship experience. Students may continue their internships as unpaid or visit with the employers about the possibility of being a paid intern (please note: not all employers may be in a position to pay “interns”). Requests for an additional/extended CWC sponsored (paid) semester internship may be granted on a case-by-case basis and are subject to available funding. Please contact Angel Kerr (angel@zlmmc8.com) to discuss the possibility of additional/extended paid internship.

Career and Major Exploration

It is never too early to start exploring majors or careers! Do not leave your future to chance. The CWC Career Services office can help you learn the skills you need to create a professional cover letter and resume, improve networking strategies, and refine your interviewing skills.

Career Advising…What to expect from your individual session

Whether you are just beginning your studies at Central Wyoming College or preparing to graduate, our career professionals can assist you in your job search and in your career development. They can assist you in identifying your work-related values and interests, as well as assess your unique skills. Plan on 30 to 60 minutes for your session (to be determined in advance) and they can take place in person, by phone, or via ZOOM. Your career professional is a partner who can help you in refining your career plans and guide you through the decision-making process to set and achieve realistic career goals. Our expectation is that you are an engaged and active participant in your voyage to find career enlightenment. We will not and cannot make decisions for you; only you can do this. We will answer your questions to the best of our ability, refer you to resources, and be happy to make follow up appointments as needed.

To make an appointment, please contact: Angel Kerr, Career Services Coordinator, angel@zlmmc8.com 307-855-2247

Career Advising Sessions…What we cannot do
  • Career Advisors cannot write your cover letters or resumes for you. It is your responsibility to bring in drafts of both documents. We are happy to provide constructive feedback and will note corrections/edits that should be made.
  • Career Advisors cannot make decisions for you on your behalf. You must make your own decisions. We are here to provide you with the necessary career service tools, skill sets, and information to help you, so you can make positive and effective decisions based on your unique circumstances. Our role is to be transformational, providing you with the necessary skills that you’ll need for current and future employment opportunities.
  • Career Advisors cannot place you in a job. We are here to facilitate and help you navigate your employment search. We will share with you all of our knowledge and insight about employers we work with and those who we know are hiring. We are happy to refer students to prospective employers and refer employers to students. We want to put you in the best position to be hired, but we cannot guarantee employment.
  • Career Advisors are not Success Coaches. Course registrations, course curriculums, grades, or credit hours should be discussed with your CWC Success Coach/advisor, your major department, or the CWC Registrar’s office.
